No. Lightfold compresses your PDF inside your own browser. The file is never sent to a server, so nobody (including us) can see, store or share it. You can check: turn off your Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.

We don't keep them at all, because we never receive them. The PDF only exists in your browser tab's memory while you work, and it's cleared when you close the tab or choose another file.

No. Lightfold never turns pages into images. Text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics and lines stay sharp, and links, bookmarks and form fields keep working. Only images stored at a higher resolution than they're displayed are resized.

Yes. Choose “Hit a file size”, type your limit, and Lightfold finds the highest quality that fits. It tells you before you start whether the size is easy, will soften photos, or isn't reachable.

It's completely free, with no sign-up, no email, no watermark and no daily limit. It's an open-source volunteer project.

Yes. Lightfold is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence and is built on the MuPDF engine, so anyone can read the code and confirm that files are never uploaded.

There's no upload and no download wait, and no server queue. Your own computer does the work the moment you click, so a typical document takes a few seconds. Very large, image-heavy files (100 MB and up) take around half a minute.

Yes. It's been tested on 100-page, 150 MB image-heavy files. You can also keep only the pages you need, for example 1-3, 5.
